Get ahead of the party season: Target toy clearance in July

Lego "Hero Factory" Bionicle, $3.24 (reg. 12.99)
there were lots of these yesterday

Hi friends,
Target starts clearing out their toy section this time of year.  If you notice, many items are now 50% off, which is pretty decent.  If you wait a few days, you should be able to find some great buys for 75% off!  Stockpiling toys in the back of my closet has saved me tons of money!  Often it's hard to plan ahead for birthday party expenses, because class friends invite my kids to parties I had no way to plan for.  I used to run out and spend $20 on a last minute gift.  Now, I go into my closet and find an age/gender appropriate gift, and we're good to go for only a few bucks!  Just last weekend, my son's friend had a birthday party.  We gave him two 2-packs of Bakugans (pretty popular with the kinder-crowd), and our total cost was only $6 for what would have been $24 full price.
I am always thinking ahead for my own kids' birthday parties as well.  Since I know my boys are in love with superheroes, I will buy table cloths, napkins, crayons, coloring books, and other goody bag gifts any time I find them 75% off.

2 pack squirt guns, $2.50 (reg. $10)

Save 80% at Restaurant.com... $24 gift certificates for $2!

Hi friends,
I've talked about Restaurant.com before.  It's a super easy way to save money on eating out.  Thanks to Aimee at portervillefamilyfun for giving me the heads up to this great site!

Over the past year, I've bought at least a dozen certificates, enabling us to have fun date nights for a fraction of the price.  My favorite restaurants on the site: El Rosal in Visalia, Rio Grill in Visalia, Rosa's in Porterville, Fugazzi's in Visalia.  Availability varies, check back every now and then to find new restaurants.

Each restaurant lists specific details, be sure to read each one.  After purchasing, print your certificate and present it when you order, easy peasy!

Be sure to use code SUN to get your
80% discount at Restaurant.com

My Grocery Outlet Loot: All this for $75 and not one single coupon!

Hey friends,
I'm all about promoting the great deals in our home town of Pville, I try to keep my money local as much as possible.  But every once in awhile I drive to Visalia for a marathon of savings!  It doesn't make much sense to me to spend my gas money to shop in Visalia all the time, but when I'm over there I try to grab all the great deals I can find!
Yesterday I saved a ton of money on a full cart at Grocery Outlet in Visalia.  On Mooney, right next to the Visalia Mall, Grocery Outlet is a great store to stretch your budget without a single coupon (they don't accept
them).  Every now and then, it's nice to shop without sorting through coupons, I love this store!

My Old Navy Loot: $25 for 6 shirts and 4 skirts!

My Old Navy Loot!
6 tops and 4 skirts for only $25!!!

Yesterday, July 5th, I ran over to Old Navy in Visalia hoping to spend a few Groupon deals I bought last month.  Two times in June, Groupon.com had a deal to spend $10 to buy a $20 Old Navy certificate.  I bought a total of two certificates (one each time they had the deal).

Yesterday, it turns out, was a fantastic day to shop at Old Navy!  They just marked down a bunch of nice summer clothes to 75% off!  Whew, I was so excited!  The clearance price on most of the shirts was around $3, and the skirts were all in the $6 range.  By splitting up my items into two purchases, and using my two $20 Groupons, I paid only about 5bucks extra out of pocket.  With the $20 I spent to buy the two groupons, my total expense for all items purchase was right around $25!  My daughter and I will be well-clothed for the remainder of the heat wave we so fondly call "summer."

I recommend subscribing to Fresno and Bakersfield

Thanks for the great photos, Groupon & Picture People!

Dear Groupon,

Thanks for hooking me up with a totally sweet deal.  The Picture People deal from a few weeks back, 8 portrait sheets for only $16, was a super steal.  What I love best about Picture People is that the studio is large and open and well-air-conditioned!  My kiddos said "Cheese" and mama was happy with the results, for sure!

Sincerely,

Happy Mama with updated pictures

Get $5 to start saving on Movie Tix, Food, Entertainment, Getaways!

Hey friends, I have to tell you about another daily deal site I often use.

Similar to Groupon.com  which I have talked about before here, LivingSocial.com has daily deals that include restaurants, entertainment, getaways, spas, etc at a deep discount.

Although there are a million daily deal sites out there, LivingSocial is good because every couple of months they seem to run another deal on movie tickets through Fandango.com!

Several months back they had a special, $11 for two Fandango movie tickets.  More recently, the special was only $9 for two tickets!  Galaxy Theaters don't yet honor Fandango tickets, but most other theaters do.

Here's what we do:  I buy a pair of tickets from my LivingSocial account, hubby buys a pair from his account.  When we're ready to go on a family movie date, we redeem both pairs of tickets by going to Fandango.com, choosing our movie and showtime, and putting in our codes.

With 4 movie tickets for only $18-$22, a family date is pretty affordable!  We always use our tickets at the Regal Stadium Theater in Visalia, and will use a Groupon deal or Restaurant.com certificate to eat out for a small price.  Voila, family date on a dime!

If you don't have a printer, Fandango will email your confirmation code which you can use to pick up your tickets at the theater.

This would also be a great way to catch a show while you're on vacation!

CVS Shopping basics

If you're new to shopping at CVS, here are the very basics.  Sign up for a free Extra Care card.  Every time you go in to CVS, scan your card at the red machine thingy.  It will print out coupons for you, that can be combined with manufacturer coupons.  Sometimes it will print you "dollar off" coupons, such as "$3 off $15 baby items" or what used to be a common one, "$5 off $25 purchase."  The dollar off coupons can be used with all other coupons.  For instance, I'm buying a total of $25 worth of merchandise (my total before any coupons), so the first coupon I hand the cashier is the $5 off $25 CVS coupon (if I scan my other coupons first, my total would be less than $25, get it?).  Next I hand over my regular coupons.

Green Bag Tags are little leaf-shaped tags that cost $1.  Each time you shop at CVS, bring a reusable bag.  When ringing up your order, have the checker scan your Green Bag Tag.  Every 4th day you use your bag tag, you earn $1 ECB (Extra Care Buck).  Your account can only earn one credit each day, so if you come back later and use your green bag tag, it doesn't count.  If you scan your tag each time, it's essentially like earning a quarter, and it's a helpful reminder to bring a reusable bag, which is a great habit any way.

ECB, or Extra Care Bucks are like CVS dollars.  You earn them by making certain purchases, by using your green bag tag, and quarterly you earn a percentage of your purchases.  They can be used immediately just like cash.  If you see a sale that says something like this: "Oral-B Toothbrushes, $3, free after ECB" that means you will pay $3 for the toothbrush, and receive a $3 ECB to use for your next purchase.

For more details on shopping at CVS, check out my previous posts:
Shopping at CVS
My CVS Loot and Breaking News on CVS Coupon Policy!
My CVS Loot: $3.40 total (half of that tax!)

My CVS Loot: $3.40 total (half of that tax!)

CVS Shoppers, don't forget to scan your Extra Care card every time you go to CVS!  Lately I've noticed that if I scan it twice in a row, it will print a few different coupons.  Today I got $2/2 Pantene, Herbal Essence, or Aussie hair products, Free Air Delight candy bar, $2/Skittles, Starburst, Life Savers, $1/Pringles, $1/Twizzlers.
Using the weekly sales and manufacturer coupons from the newspaper, along with a few CVS coupons, I was able to score all the items in this photo for $3.40 (after ECB)!

Date Night for $5?

Now, I will say that there is a broad range of definitions when it comes to "date night."  But tonight my hubby took our young daughter out on a date.  She is our only girl and we think it's important for Daddy to take her out every now and then, to show her how a man should treat her and spend some quality time together.

Well, with money tight and time even tighter for most of the families I know (and considering that some families have many more daughters than us), this whole "daddy date" concept could potentially be pretty pricey!

Tonight hubby took our daughter to the finest of Porterville dining.  Well, umm, the finest in HER opinion, anyway!  For only $5 and a Buy One Get One Free coupon from last week's paper, Daddy and daughter had two box meals at KFC.  To top it off, he let her pick out somewhere else to go.  She chose good old MickeyD's, and they each had a $1 soft serve cone for dessert.

This may not be any kind of record savings, but spending 5 bucks for some quality time out versus the $15-$20 we could have easily spent, our kids are learning several lessons at once.  Time together is important.  Saving money and being a wise spender is also important.

All that to say, I hope you were able to grab a KFC coupon from last week's "Parade" insert.  Always check that little mini-magazine for coupons before tossing it.  Be safe and enjoy some quality time with your own families this holiday weekend.
